Why
do I need a bookkeeper?
A bookkeeper's job is to take the stress out of the repetitive financial
tasks for the business owner/ manager. It is virtually impossible
to keep up with the myriad of compliance issues that need to be
addressed by anyone in business. You spend enough time trying to
get out there and sell your product or service. A big part of running
a successful business is learning to delegate the routine tasks
to someone who can do them quickly and efficiently. With regards
to finances, that's the role of the bookkeeeper! Many business owners
have their accountant do these financial tasks in-house. However,
the rates they will charge to do this are markedly higher, and more
often than not, the person doing the work is a bookkeeper employed
by the firm.
The CHill Out Bookkeeping motto is "Let me
take the stress out of your bookkeeping!". Caryn will work
to make sure that your bookkeeping experience is as stress free
as possible.
What does it cost?
The cost to your business will vary, depending on the complexity
of the tasks and how much time is needed. It's a good idea to have
a list of things that you expect from your bookkeeper. Do you want
someone to pay bills, chase up accounts owing, and send out invoices
or just someone to bring the quarterly accounts up to date and do
bank reconciliations? Will you do payroll yourself or is this a
task for the bookkeeper? Different businesses have different requirements
in terms of reporting and compliance, all of which affect the cost
of the bookkeeping task. The first meeting with your bookkeeper
should be a time to set out your expectations and gain some understanding
of the length of time it will take to get the work done, as well
as the hourly rate.
A big part of the expense of an accountant is
related to having to chase clients for all the paperwork that is
needed. Caryn has experience with setting up charts of accounts
for your business, and will liaise with your accountant to be sure
that your business is able to meet their requirements. If the bookkeeping
processes are set up correctly, the information should be easily
obtainable and processes easily understood.
The Owner
Caryn Hill is the owner of Chill Out! Bookkeeping. She has been
an MYOB bookkeeper since 2003, having previously done manual bookkeeping
years before. On moving to Port Macquarie on the NSW Mid North Coast
in late 2007, she decided to start her own business and has gone
from strength to strength. Caryn is friendly and outgoing, with
a good knowledge of bookkeeping for small to large businesses including
not-for-profit organisations. One of Caryn's passions is the challenge
of bringing order out of chaos, and tidying up accounting systems
that have become unwieldy after many years of use. She is able to
work both independently and as part of a team.
Experience
Caryn has experience with all aspects of accounts payable and receivable,
bank reconciliations and monthly reporting - including BAS preparation
and submission. She has experience with foreign currency transactions,
payroll, and salary sacrifice for not for profit organisations,
and can competently handle any issues that may arise. Caryn has
also had experience with preparing accounts for the audit process.
2009
Caryn is at present studying for her Cert IV in Financial Services
(Bookkeeping) which will give her the qualification necessary under
the new taxation rulings (2009) to submit Business Activity Statements
on behalf of her clients. Under the new taxation laws passed recently
in Parliament, contract bookkeepers are no longer allowed to submit
BAS for their clients without the supervision of a registered tax
agent or accountant unless they have completed the required qualifications
and are a member of certain organisations that will cover this.

Isaiah 40:31 - "They that wait on the Lord shall renew their
strength, they shall rise up on wings like eagles, they shall walk
