Nutrition Tips
For Older Australians. Adapted from the Dietary Guidelines for Older Australians, NHMRC, 1999.

  1. Enjoy a wide variety of nutritious foods.
  2. Keep active.
  3. Maintain muscle strength & a healthy weight.
  4. Eat at least 3 meals every day.
  5. Care for your food: Prepare and store it correctly.
  6. Eat plenty of vegetables (including lugumes) and fruit.
  7. Eat plenty of cereals, breads and pastas.
  8. Eat a diet low in saturated fats.
  9. Drink adequate amounts of water and/or other fluids.
  10. Choose foods low in salt and use salt sparingly.
  11. Include foods high in calcium.
  12. Use added sugars in moderation.
