Jacqui Forest's Bio
Jacqui started taking Belly dance classes in 1999 at the Awalim School of Middle Eastern Dance and Percussion. She had always loved dance but had been too shy to try until she saw the amazing Tarab and Awalim dancers perform and thought she would give it a try. She was so taken with the style of dance, she took every class that was on offer. Through the caring and thoughtful guidance of teachers Karen Tollan and Shekhinah Morgan she started performing in 2001. She began teaching classes in 2003 and has taught sporadically from then on. As a mother of young children, Jacqui has particular interest in teaching children and teenagers and has taught both girls and boys at schools in NSW and Victoria. To further her knowledge of the dance, Jacqui has also taken workshops with international dancers Paulette Rees Denis (America) and Alessandro El Bascioni (Europe) and Australian dancers such as Tarab, Catherine McCormick, Amera, and Leonie Sukan. She has performed with Tarab and regularly appears in the Coffs Harbour area with dance troupe Mirage and the Ashembe drummers.

Teen & Adult Belly Dancing Classes

Teenager/Adult Classes
Every Wednesday Afternoon
from 4:30pm to 5:30pm

A Teen & Adult class is also being introduced by the Awalim School and will be a Tribal style / beginners belly dance class. The tribal style of belly dance was developed by the US group ‘FatChanceBellyDance’ in the late 80’s. Tribal style is a unique take on belly dance where the dancers are fabulously adorned in a mix of treasures from many cultures. Eventually dancers learn how to improvise as a group allowing a great spontaneity in performance and sense of community. This class will be based on a blend of tribal and folkloric tradition. What Jacqui loves most about this style of dance is that it allows dancers a great range of artistic freedom and is suitable for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. You can use it simply as a form of exercise to keep fit and healthy, a way of picking up a few moves to use on the dance floor or as a device to express yourself creatively.

Childrens Belly Dancing Classes
Jacqui became inspired to teach this age group after noticing how much her 2 year old daughter picked up and how much fun it is to dance with little kids. Since 2003, Jacqui has taught both girls and boys at schools in NSW and Victoria and has been developing ideas about teaching younger students. Jacqui already has some bookings and is hoping that classes will get enough support. The focus of these classes is creative movement with a Middle Eastern dance flavour. With dance, games, rhythm, music and props it will be lots of fun and is open to girls AND boys! Numbers in this class are strictly limited and bookings are essential.
