| About Tenterfield |
History
Tenterfield is one of the more romantic & colourful Australian
frontier towns. Sir Henry Parkes referred to Tenterfield as “The
Birthplace of Our Nation” when delivering his famous Federation
Speech in the Tenterfield School of Arts (24th October 1889). This
Federation Speech ultimately led to the Federation of all Australian
States on January 1st 1901.
Captain Thunderbolt (alias Fred Ward), was a bushranger in the area
in the mid 1880s.
Local Solicitor - Major J.F. Thomas, is noted for his defence of
Harry "The Breaker" Morant. For more information about

A.B. “Banjo” Patterson, married local girl Alice Walker
from Tenterfield Station at St Stephens Presbyterian Church in 1903.
"Banjo Patterson" is best remember for his typically Australian
poetry. For example - "The Bush Christening" and "Mulga
Bill's Bicycle" and "The Man From Ironbark", and
"The Man from Snowy River".
Peter Allen (the boy from OZ) will be remembered as was an International
entertainer. Peter was born in Tenterfield and was the grandson
of “The Tenterfield Saddler”, whom he immortalised in
his hauntingly beautiful song.
Bald Rock
Bald
Rock - Bald Rock is situated in Bald Rock National Park on the
New South Wales-Queensland border. Bald Rock is Australia's largest
granite monolith and it rises to 1277 metres above sea level, rises
around 200 metres out of the surrounding bushland, is 750 metres
long and 500 metres wide.
