History
The Land Of The Beardies takes its name from "the Beardies",
Chandler and Duval, two bearded stockmen from Tilbuster Station,
north of Armidale, who were the first white men known to be in the
district before 1838. For a consideration, they would direct new
settlers to the best land. Scot Archibald Boyd, from Selkirkshire,
was the district's first settler. The town was gazetted in 1852.
Glen Innes hospital was built in 1875.
